The City of Clermont is one of the fastest growing cities in central Florida and is strategically located just west of Orlando and north of Disney World. Clermont was founded in 1884 and incorporated in 1916. Our local theater scene features the Clermont Performing Arts Center -- a 1,200-seat performance hall, which is the largest in the county, as well as a 250-seat black-box theater. The newly refurbished center is part of the 69,000-square-foot Clermont Arts and Recreation Center at 3700 S. Highway 27, atop the hills of Clermont overlooking Lake Felter. Downtown Clermont is the core area of Clermont, located between State Road 50 and the south shore of Lake Minneola. This area provides a variety of unique retail shops, restaurants and businesses, as well as the Art League, the Clermont City Center and Clermont City Hall. Also located at the west end of downtown is the Historic Village.
The City of Clermont is governed by five elected city council members, including the mayor, as well as a city manager in a Council-Manager form of government. City Manager Darren Gray serves as the chief executive officer, handling day-to-day operations overseeing 12 departments and 425 employees.
Citizens also participate in local government by serving on several advisory boards. The public is invited to attend city council meetings, which are held at 6:30 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at the Council Chambers at City Hall, 685 W. Montrose St.
